Background
Beau Baird is the Republican incumbent for House District 44, covering all of Putnam County and approximately 65% of Montgomery County (Source 3). He has held the seat since at least 2018, when he defeated primary challenger Jess Norton 5,131 to 2,745 (Source 3). In 2026 he faces his first Republican primary challenge since that year, from Clint Cooper of Greencastle (Source 3). Baird has also authored legislation including HB 1557 (2025), a prescribed burning bill (Source 4).
