Background
Jeff Ellington served three terms as State Representative for House District 62 (2015–2022), which included most of Greene County and portions of Monroe, Martin, and Daviess counties (Source 1)(Source 3). Before the legislature, he served as Monroe County Council member and Monroe County Recorder; he is also a retired firefighter, horse farmer, and Greene County Republican Party Chairman (Source 2). In the House, his focus was taxpayers' rights, tax cuts, roads and bridges funding, and natural resources (Source 3). Trump endorsed him on January 27, 2026, calling him an "America First Patriot" and explicitly faulting both incumbent Bassler and challenger Kristi Risk for their redistricting postures (Source 2). He visited the White House in early March 2026 along with other Trump-endorsed Indiana candidates (Source 4).
