Background
Greg Walker (R-Columbus) has represented Senate District 41 since 2006, defeating then-Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Garton in that year's Republican primary. He announced in August 2025 that he would not seek re-election but reversed that decision on January 8, 2026, the first day of the candidacy filing period, citing the political turmoil from the congressional redistricting debate (Source 2). Walker was among the most vocal Republican critics of the redistricting plan pushed by President Trump, accusing Trump of violating the Hatch Act by using a federal employee to pressure state legislators. He was one of several lawmakers who faced swatting and other intimidation tactics ahead of the Senate's December 2025 vote (Source 2). His Freedom Index score for the 2025–2026 sessions is 33%.
Positions
